For years there's been a "gentleman's agreement" between colleges about not recruiting players who gave given verbal commitments to other schools. It looks like some schools are starting to push back against that: http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2014/05/02_recruiting_mutiny_at_coachs.php
It's an interesting debate, and I'd be interested to see what people's opinions are. Personally, I don't like the gentleman's agreement. I feel it leads schools to pressure young kids into making verbal commitments, knowing that once they secure the commitment they don't have to worry about other schools recruiting them. This leads to 14 year old kids getting pressured into making life changing decisions that are more of less binding on them.
